![]() It was at this moment that Valka realized that what she had always known deep down about dragons was actually true: Dragons were not vicious creatures at all, but were instead curious beings who had been misunderstood for centuries. However, during a particularly vicious battle between Vikings and dragons, Valka was horrified to find the massive, four-winged Stormcutter staring at her infant son. Back then, Valka stood alone as the only advocate for peace between the two species. The two first met when the relationship between Vikings and dragons was as unstable as a ship full of Berserkers. What Hiccup doesn’t realize is that the Windwalker is trapped and enslaved by the Red Death, and his mother never receives the message of his whereabouts.The history between Valka and her loyal Stormcutter, Cloudjumper, is long and full of friendship, adventure and danger. ![]() He can’t leave it trapped on an island of Vikings… not when he feels responsible…Īnd he kinda wants to see what he can accomplish while he’s there. Hiccup sends his Windwalker back to the sanctuary with a message to his mother about the injured Night Fury. He quickly realizes the Night Fury would be too young to escape the cove it accidentally trapped itself in without flight. He calms the dragon, takes in the tail damage, glances around their surroundings. The Night Fury makes one last attempt for flight and goes crashing against a stone wall. Hiccup springs after him, cooing, trying to calm him so he can observe his injuries. The Night Fury’s in pain, crashing through the woods, trying to get in the air. Hiccup manages to help the Night Fury up and into the cover of forest before anyone can truly discern the downed pile of bodies. It’s dark out–no one can really see–but the Vikings come running towards them. He notices, with some horror, that the Night Fury is injured as well. Hiccup’s injured, but manages to cut them both free from the bola. They’re caught together, tangled, and all three go crashing down. ![]() And as the elusive Night Fury is halted for the first time in Berk’s history, a Viking throws a bola. It’s madness–dangerous–weapons and claws clutter the air and its in these efforts that he barrels into Toothless–an accidental dragon collision. He does everything he can to keep both parties safe. He flies around shooing dragons and stopping vikings from killing them. She warns him of how she’s tried and found it impossible. Val grows frustrated with her son that won’t listen to her. He knows where he’s from, and long been warned of the anti-dragon practices by his mother, but it doesn’t stop him from flying over Berk when he can… watching the teens his age, wishing he could play with them…Īs he grows older and more rebellious, he sprouts ideals of humans and dragons living together so that they could return to Berk. There’s something missing in his heart and he keeps flying further and further to find it on his Windwalker. But he yearns for more human companionship. Hiccup grows in the dragon sanctuary–free, healthy, and happy. Stoick stands in their wrecked home, heartbroken. When CloudJumper leaves, it’s with Valka and their child gripped in her arms. ![]() Val has enough time to approach Hiccup and the dragon before Stoick runs in to startle them. ![]()
